Meta to Pay $25 Million for Suspending Trump Account

Since Donald Trump became president, Meta has been spending a lot of money.

In addition to donating $1 million to the presidential inauguration, it is now spending $25 million to settle a lawsuit against Trump. The case involves Meta’s handling of Trump’s social media accounts after his team stormed the Capitol after Trump lost the 2020 election.

Trump, who was unhappy with the suspension, sued Meta in 2021. Within days of Trump’s return to office, Meta agreed to pay $25 million to settle the case. Trump also sued Twitter, now known as X, and YouTube over the suspension of his accounts, but a judge dismissed the case in 2023.

Of the $25 million that Meta will pay, $22 million will go to the Trump presidential library fund, while the remaining $3 million will go to witnesses and legal fees. Meta is trying to improve relations with Trump after the 2024 election.

After Trump became president, the company canceled its fact-checking program and relaxed its policy of allowing controversial topics to be discussed.
