Google Searches Drop Below 90% for First Time in 10 Years

The internet search giant appears to be losing market share.

Google searches have fallen to their lowest level in 10 years in the last three months of 2024. Since 2015, more than 90% of online searches have come from Google Search. Now, it’s a shocking result for Google.

According to a report by Search Engine Land, Google’s global search market share has fallen by 90% in each of the last three months. Specifically, it was 89.34% in October, 89.99% in November, and 89.73% in December.

A market share of over 89% in internet search is no small feat. But it’s a different story for Google. After decades of dominating the search world, it’s worth noting that AI search rivals like ChatGPT search have emerged.

While traditional search engine rivals Bing, Yandex, and Yahoo have also seen their market share increase slightly, Google is not a threat. Even its second-largest competitor, Bing, doesn’t have a market share of more than 4%.

People are now asking ChatGPT more than Google search for everything from sports news, to stock markets, to weather, to news. This could be a wake-up call for Google.
