Charlie Munger, the world’s oldest investor, who is just 1 months away from turning 100, says
“Spend each day trying to be a little wiser than you were when you woke up.”
He says that you should try to improve every day, even if it’s just a little bit wiser than you were yesterday.
Charlie Munger is a close friend of stock guru Warren Buffett, and is still the vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. He is currently a 100-year-old stock investor and still gives interviews.
To paraphrase the above, Charlie means that people should not limit their abilities and thinking abilities. They should constantly expand their knowledge and experience in order to improve themselves.
Learning is not something you do in school. It’s something you do until you die.
If you learn from new experiences in your daily life, try to handle challenges, and seek out good opportunities, you will always have an open path to progress in life without limits.
The author was weak in English when he was young. He used to get only 40 marks in every exam. He had to read in English, write in English, and answer questions in English.
Being afraid is even more scary than seeing ghosts…. When he was afraid, he didn’t want to write, and when he didn’t want to, he didn’t know or could do it.
Later, he made it a habit to read books written in English every day. At first, if he could read just one line, it was like a great achievement for him. From one line to one paragraph, from one paragraph to one page, from one page to several pages, and from several books. As he studied and read more and more every day, his progress gradually increased.
A book that was difficult to read and couldn’t be understood last year, now it’s easy to read it. It’s not difficult because you’ve learned more than you did last year. There’s a lot of evidence that you’ve improved. If it’s still difficult this year, it’s because you’re still at the same level as last year.
Some people hang their graduation photos in the living room and talk about their credentials everywhere, but if they don’t continue to study every day, they’ll just stay at that level. As they get older, what they know becomes irrelevant.
If you want to learn, you don’t have to go to school. It’s not as difficult as traveling for three years to Shindisaparamauk like in the old days. There are many places to learn from, from books, from conversations with good teachers, from youtube, google, etc..
If you consistently study and learn every day…
- Decision-making skills will improve
- Critical thinking will improve
- Career and opportunity choices will increase
- Higher education will lead to better income
- You will be free from the influence of others, such as what this person says and what that person says
- You will develop the ability to analyze people’s attitudes
And so on, everything will improve and become more convenient than before.
Therefore, as Charlemagne said, let me once again urge you to continue your daily learning efforts and do Life Long Learning.
