A young municipal employee sacrificed her life to save tens of thousands of lives when a tsunami hit Japan in 2011. On March 11, 2011, as the tsunami was approaching, Miki Endo was broadcasting warnings from the three-story building where the disaster management center was located.
Miki Endo knew that a tsunami was coming and had already announced warnings to the city’s residents to evacuate to higher ground.
Eventually, the tsunami hit the building where Miki Endo was staying, and her body was found on April 23, 2011.
Her brave act is said to have saved thousands of lives.
